Just managed to scrape together this shoot in time for my Harpers Bazaar Style Network Post - this RELENTLESS bad weather is making shooting impossible. Still - my mod Dimity (Priscillas) pulled it out and we managed to pull together these fun loving pics. See the rest HERE

As requested I'm going to throw in a few photography/editing tips and of course you're welcome to ask me questions on my facebook. I'll try add a few more each time post.

1. If you don't have an interesting location, get closer to your subject. An interesting expression can be all you need for a compelling image.

2. Converting your pics to BW on cloudy days, up the contrast.

3. If you're going to increase the contrast of an image, reduce the saturation.

Pretty simple tips but I'll come up with some more detailed advice in upcoming posts.

Hey All! Still surviving through this rainy Sydney 'summer' and being a photographer who near solely works with available light its being quite the challenge to create summery looking editorial spreads. The answer? Adapt. Who says summer can't be hot, humid and dark?
I actually really love working with darkness, utilising minimal light really sets the mood.
I originally planned on shooting this in Centennial Park but discovered this gem of a setting while picking up my model Chelsea (Chic) down the coast. I've become pretty demanding of my subjects these days, flailing my arms around and ordering the girls to imitate. Hope I'm not being mean. 'GET IN THE DIRT! CLIMB UP THAT TREE! DON'T RUIN THE GARMENT!'
Chelsea is a trooper for sure, quite the woodland nymph or Maid Marian.
Thanks so much to Zimmerman and MCMPR for providing these stunning printed dresses.

Why HELLO!?

Here we go! My first post of 2012! Its been such a challenge to try and get back into work mode after my holiday. My news years resolution? No boozing. All year. Quite the challenge because I love a cold glass of rose after a hot day but I thought why not? Looking forward to productive weekends and a new exercise routine!

So this pic as some of you may know is the radiant Sara from Harper and Harley - we combined forces to create my post for the Harpers Bazaar Style Network and you can see the rest of it HERE.

Also thrilled to share my recent purchase, the Alexander Wang Marion bag (Available at Shopbop HERE). For me its the perfect bag for nights out, big enough to fit phone, wallet, keys, camera and with a sling strap - leaving my hands free for busting some serious moves. The hardware corners mean I won't destroy it in a hurry - I'm known for being accident prone.
I was intially upset I missed out on the bag with the Rose Gold/Tan colouring but have turned myself around with the fact that I know I'd spill something on a tan bag, thats just my style.
It is pretty amazing though... Maybe Santa (aka my credit card) will be generous this year!

Louis Vuitton Store Opening

Better late than never! My images from the official opening of the Louis Vuitton Maison store in Sydney, featuring none other than the incredible Cate Blanchett cutting the ribbon. As you might be able to tell from these shots I had the great pleasure of standing very close to the divine Miss Cate - and I have to say - she glows absolutley. Shines like a star! But let's just be cool for a minute... Sort of almost meeting Cate wasn't the only highlight - how sweet are the creations of artist Billie Achilleos, animals made of entirely of Louis Vuitton bags and purses and zips. The beautiful thing was they didn't appear to be made of deconstructed torn up pieces but of near whole items! So precious.
Obviously the Ready to Wear was all stunning - and you can tell I geeked out a bit by snapping pictures of myself holding pieces in the mirror (just be cool Zanita) and got a few funny looks from the security guards. Spot fellow bloggers Nicole (Gary Pepper) and Mandy (Oracle Fox) who were clearly enjoying themselves as much as I was.
Artisan Fatima was busily constructing a bag by hand for our on entertainment, the work was painstaking and by the looks of it required incredible dexterity and strong fingers. Fatima has been working for Louis Vuitton for over 15 years (or maybe it was 25)!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE amazing sky high black boots, stunning lime green box bag, peter pan collar shirt, The World's Best Leather Jacket and the most covetable gold studded collar I've ever seen.
My dreams are stamped with LV.

Arm Party

I'm sure some of you have pick up the term, coined by the very fabulous Man Repeller, creating a decent Arm Party is a skill where I'm a bit of an amateur, being that I'm quite the minimalist - my 'Arm Party' would be the 'scrabble and white wine double date' of parties.
Still practice makes perfect.
Here I have three little wrist gems, number 1 being actually covered in real gems, almost, my Tresor Paris bracelet with white crystals. So blingin'.
Secondly, my old faithful Tiffany cuff - given to me as a gift from my true love.
Finally and perhaps most importantly my sweet Georg Jensen heart bracelet (no I haven't joined Kabbalah). Stuck for a sweet christmas gift for a special loved one? Give the gift of giving! $50 dollars from the sale of each one of these bracelets goes to the Australian Red Cross.
Christmas is a time for us to be grateful for how lucky we all are to have friends, food to eat, a screen to stare at. Share some of your good will and give a little, to a charity like the Australian Red Cross who are responsible for vital community services at this time of year for those in need. Services such as a daily phone call to an isolated elderly individual to provide friendship and assistance or helping children's lives internationally by providing food and safe drinking water. So yeah... enough preaching from me, I just hope you can do you heart a favour and give it some thought.

Paspaley x Polo x Ellery

A well overdue post of an extremely entertaining day - Polo in Centennial Park, courtesy of Paspaley Pearls. One unexpected surprised was the Ellery fashion show midway through the day and I tip my hat to the gorgeous mods keeping their cool in the scorching heat, though the styling which included some beautiful Paspaley pieces would have certainly inspired a degree of cool factor. I'm definately a fan of the game of Polo now, extremely entertaining with a glass of champagne and a good interval of divet stomping.
Thanks so much to Paspaley for styling me up in some stunning Pearl earrings, paired with my Secret Squirrel dress I felt very much the 'Pretty Woman.'
Meanwhile how stunning is the new Paspaley campaign, shot by our very own Nicole Bentley and starring timeless beauty Carolyn Murphy. Epic beauty.

Its the kind of talent that makes a model more than just a look, its spells longevity in a career and an enviable portfolio of work.

I'm so busy! Steadily throwing off those shackles that is my modelling career and slowly moving into being a legit photog... Not that my modelling hasn't been amazing - because it truly has (is) - more like its going to take a backseat. Being a model means you always need to be available, all of your work comes at the last minute - I usually won't know about being a booked until just one day prior to the job. It certainly makes the job thrilling, one highlight - finding out on a Friday afternoon that I'm flying to Tahiti on the Monday - what a buzz! I can't imagine what its like for really successful models. You'd have to being able to handle flying like nothing else. When I was working in Europe I had a little routine for flying where I'd reapply vitamin E to my face and do yoga stretches before, midway and after the flight... You gotta do what you gotta do! Enough rambling, above is a preview of my latest contribution to the Harpers Bazaar Style Network - featuring the very delicate Nina Van Bree and below, a couple beauty outtakes. In the true spirit of recommitting to blogging and then taking on too much, I attended a blogger breakfast last week for new Aussie online retailer, The Iconic, and followed that up with a test shoot with the delightful Niah from The Agency. Thankfully the test became much more when I was gratefully loaned some very cool pieces from The Iconic and was able to create a mini-editorial down in Bondi. Unfortunately the weather was completely atrocious. You can't have everything!
So as you can see The Iconic stocks labels like Ellery, Shakuhachi - and of course the very fabulous Stylestalker - but one of the most exciting things about this e-tailer is the shipping, if you're a Sydney-sider like myself you can have you garment arrive on your doorstep less than 3 HOURS after you click that shiny purchase button. Perfect for Friday afternoons when you're at work and realise you've got 'absolutely nothing' to wear for that event/party/date later that evening. I don't really know how they are doing it but apparently it's only 5 dollars to have this service too. Craziness.

Hot weather has finally arrived in Sydney after what feels like 3 winter seasons in row (not really cold, just wet) and that means I can present to you my Summer season Zanita for Funkis clogs! An Ode

One of the reasons I fell in love with fashion imagery pre-teen, I'd steal old Vogue's from my Mum's friends and obsess over the clothes and beautiful models, the glamourous scenes. Bruce Weber is an absolutely favourite of mine, I love the way he captures youth and vivaciousness with a degree of realism. Plus he uses loads of natural light. I imagine modelling for Bruce would include loads of fun activity.
Looking at this now I realise I've put an image by Alasdair McLellan in there - his work is obviously inspired in part by Bruce anyway. I started making the collage then realised it was all Bruce's workg forgetting I'd thrown in that Alasdair shot. Can you guess which one it is? Also - spot a couple vintage 90210 babes, in Pepe Jeans and Gap ads... and a certain soccer superstar...

Here are a few beauty shots of reluctant bombshell Matilda (priscillas), shes such a sweetheart. I love that she doesn't seem to know exactly how striking her look is.
All these shots are styled by me and snapped using solely natural light, you can see that with each image I've used filtering light and shadow in a different way.

So as promised here's a bunch of shots from my special day - it's been over a month since and I'm still wishing I could borrow a time machine and live it all again. It was just so perfect, surrounded by my closest friends and family, perfect weather despite the forecast looking like rain. The only painful thing about the whole day was the soreness in my cheeks from the goofy grin I was sporting. How much taller am I than all my bridesmaids!? Guess which one is my sister ;)
So the deets, my dress was a replica of a JCrew gown, remade in lace and silk faille, the bridesmaids dresses were also from JCrew - matchy matchy! My earrings were Lisa Ho and I wore ASOS heels for the ceremony and glittery Seed flats for dancing later on. The do's were by Wendy at Head Studio and it was exactly want I wanted, very simple and elegant. Make-up was thanks to Rebekah Clark, she's such a wizard and I felt lucky to have her. Photography was by Katrina Hawley at Third Eye Photography, who graciously allowed me to do my own editing. The bouquets were made by my Aunty Merle and new Mother-In-Law Jane - first time they've done it too!
Best day ever.

Highlights of my sojourn into the city to check out Vogue Fashion's Night Out - meeting the divine Kate O'Shea, Regional Marketing Manager for Paspaley and Meg Gray bringing her feet and corresponding shoe porn to Tiffany's. It was a fun evening of Pimm's and lemonade at Paspasley - then popcorn and cider at Tiffany's. How cute are those Polo Players?!! I love the boots.
I've still got my fingers crossed, entered a comp to win some stunning Paspasley Pearl earrings - would match my dress perfectly. Later I almost got caught up in the moment and splashed on a Paloma Picasso ring. I once got to meet Paloma Picasso at a Tiffany event so I was feeling quite attached... She's amazing.
Must save my pennies for honeymoon!
Had to leave VFNO early due to a twisted knee which was quite sad - still theres always next year!

A big summary of all the testing and photo I've done since I first got behind lens - my first test being the one I shot with my close friend and muse, Katie Ball, on the rooftop of my old apartment building. How my life has changed direction since that fateful day! I can't fully describe the feeling I had when I first started clicking away, it like I truly felt like I knew where I was going for the first time.
Guess it's probably time to get my act together and start trying for some submissions!

My heart leapt when I opened the door to a gorgeous parcel, this stunning camel coat from Miss Unkon - and I've have barely taken it off since I received it. The thing about a coat like this, I know its going to last forever, its so well made, and its a classic style thats going to meld with so many trends and pair so well with a simple tee and jeans. A good camel coat can take you a long way.

My absolute favourite way to dress during the day is 'geek chic' and this outfit, featuring a new pair of shoes from Zomp exhibits that love entirely.

How long has it been since I've done an actual outfit post? Forever.
I'm really going to endeavour to throw in a few more of these over the coming months but I have to be honest, its never going to be like my outfit hey-day when I had a whole load more time on my hands, which meant more time to shop, to care about what I'm wearing each day.
I have to apologise, I know this outfit all but featured entirely in the previous post - Van Vorst - but I've been wearing this coat almost everyday since I got it. It's so comfortable and makes me feel dressed up while still feeling as cosy as if I'm wearing my PJ's. The shirt I'm also pretty obsessed with, love the print and shape. The jeans are AA and such great quality, looking like something transported from the 90's, my fave era always. The necklace has a jasper ring as the pendant.... can't remember where I got the earings...
Trialling using the flash on my camera, meaning I can shoot outfits once I get home from work at night.
I've always thought it looked a bit cheap but with my digi skills I'm going to try and make it work....

Been wanting to test Lauren for quite awhile now, something about her face, such strong lines. Her blonde hair is so amazing, she's looking like the lovechild of Nadja Auerman and the Roswell Alien, in a good way. She's phenomenal!!!

Can you believe we shot this in just over an hour? The fading light had me in a panic and it was about to rain. I had Lauren legging it around Bondi, quick shot here - NEXT! We even did a bit of door knocking for locations and accosted this gorgeous cat, T-Bone.
The key to getting the shot done quickly is knowing exactly what you want, and having the ability to see good natural light as you walk around your locations. Pay attention to the way light filters through doorways and windows, you can utilise the way the light wraps around your subject to flatter the face. I guess I also have the added advantage of working with really gorgous girls so that makes it easy for me! As per recent requests I'll do my best to add my own tips with each test/shoot I do from now on. x

I'll always be a lover of the the classics, a white shirt, a good blazer, the perfect pair of jeans. As for jewellery, I'm never wearing trend pieces, in fact I don't usually wear much jewellery at all, only my engagement ring and my Tiffany cuff given to me by Evan. So imagine my delight when I recieved an email with an offer of a gift, to come down to Tiffany in Sydney and select my very own Lock necklace! I've always been a fan of Tiffany, probably because I'm a romantic at heart and partly because I just adore the movie, Breakfast At Tiffany's - and then theres every movie the store has ever featured in - my heart skips a beat everytime I see a Jennifer Aniston/Eve Mendes/Reese Witherspoon etc etc open one of those delightful little blue boxes.
So I've worn my beautiful silver and rose gold Tiffany Lock everyday since I opened that little blue box and its certainly become part of my daily look, casual and hopefully elegant. I really prefer jewellery kept to the minimal, high quality pieces that compliment any outfit. The chain is ultra delicate and the lock itself is a vintage look, battered silver and has a lovely weight to it. I had actually hoped to capture a better shot than this but its near impossible to take a self portrait, beauty shot that's in focus, well at least for me anyway (believe it or not I'm still learning how to use my camera).

Ginger & Smart

Thursday night's Ginger and Smart collection titled 'Anon' showed in the incredible Wooloomooloo finger wharf, with its endless expanse of ceiling and length, it truly felt like the space was built for a catwalk. I was lucky enough to be seated with a fantastic vantage point for snapping the girls on the move and didn't they look so modern and elegant in the vibrant maxi's - the pink being my absolute favourite of the evening, along with the yellow gown - hope it comes in white! (presently on the hunt for my wedding gown).The show was my first to attend as part of Fashion Week in Sydney and what a delight to finally meet a bevy of Aussie bloggers eagerly snapping away. If you're the kind of person who would rather see hundreds of varieties of boots in just a few minutes and find exactly what you need rather than endure the torturous hours of hunting in store for that perfect pair then likely you're a fellow fashion blogger or online fashion junkie. Can you imagine my delight to discover I can visit one of the largest shopping centres in the world without lifting my butt away from my computer or taking off my pyjamas? My point is I was invited by Westfield to test out their new online store by purchasing a pair of boots just in time for winter and of course it was an offer I was delighted to accept.

So here's my purchase, the Huskey boot from Mollini in black nubuck. I used to wear a pair like this to school everyday! My new winter staple, my 'Photo-taking' boots.

I was invited to a very cool event last week for Gideon Shoes, Kelly Cutrone made a guest appearance. In my ignorance I actually had no idea who was behind the brand but considering the celebrity support I assumed I was in for something special. What I discovered was a very cool new fashion brand with a conscience.

In 2007 Matt and Naomi Noffs started The Street University – a retreat for marginalised kids in Western Sydney. Two years later Matt and his brother Rupert came up with the idea of a shoe company whose profits would sustain it, and GIDEON SHOES was born.

I'm delighted to present the results of my collaboration with Puma featuring the very beautiful Tania Pozzebom.
With Hussein Chalayan as the Creative Director of Urban Mobility Collection it's clear that Puma is taking great steps to appeal to the fashion minded. How great are the shoes?! Thanks go to Jess Steuart who created each of theses stylin' and street smart looks and Vanessa Collins who mastered the bold lip, clean look that's so right now. It was also great to have the assistance of Anthony Gattari, who incidentally knows more about operating cameras then I do and is worth his weight in gold.

My test with the beautiful Grace (Priscillas). I met Grace at a casting and noted that the pictures in her book, while absolutely lovely, didn't do justice to her bright eyed gaze. So this morning we had a little test together! She's such a striking beauty and I'm so jealous of her glossy straight hair. Hope you like.

LA Love

Susie just returned from LA, had an amazing time and I've spent the last two days sulking on how I missed out. I made such great friends with some of the American Apparel crew (I miss them!) and a return trip is well overdue. Its going to happen! I just need to go for a couple weeks - so I can catch up with everyone I'd like to and plan loads of shoots with all the fantastic LA bloggers and labels. I hoping to get there in May.
I can't believe I had forgotten to post these images from my last trip! Taghrid and Martine drove me around to a whole load of landmarks for the day - which was a bit tough - because I was kind of giving directions even though I'd never been to Los Angeles before... Thanks for putting up with me ladies!
Thankfully you can't tell how sick I was from these pics.... long flights equal flu symptoms from hell.

Oh Man!

So the final show I attended at LMFF was the Menswear show and to be honest it was the one show I thought wouldn't really interest me, but boy was I wrong. One, the dancers were fantastic - except the blonde guy that kicked me in the shin as he was running off the end of the runway - ouch! Two, the guys were smoking hot. Three, Helena Christensen made a surprise appearance and didn't she just saunter down the runway like it was nobodies business. Girl still got it. Stunning.

Damien Rinaldo, L'Oreal Professionnel Ambassador created the sleek do's on the blokes, if only the men of the general populace would commit to looking so polished. We can wish ladies.

Runway 4 at LMFF and another beautiful look created by L'Oreal Professional Hair Director, Brad Ngata. So elegant and fresh, a modern take on a classic look. You can spot me creeping around the background in these photos, in the backstage mania I'm just like 'Where's Wally?'.

I had the great pleasure of being invited down to Melbourne yesterday to indulge in some backstage camera shenanigans at three of the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. As always it was a beautiful thing to see these stylists in action and the girls were shining in this glossy look created by L'Oreal Professional Hair Director Caterina Di Biase. So sleek and expensive looking, I loved the way the hair shone in the backstage downlighting. It's truly amazing how much effort and expertise it takes to create such a seemingly simple look. Special mention has to go to whoever managed the casting of these shows, all the girls were statuesque and gorgeous.
So this was show Runway 3, next up Runway 4... and then, The Menswear featuring HELENA CHRISTENSEN!
She's phenomenal.

Hey All! Here's a sneak peek at some imagery from a special design project I've been taking part in - can't wait to share with you all. I've been so busy with different projects and work, heading to Melbourne Thursday to snap some images from LMFF, we all love a sneak peek backstage! Hopefully I'll get to meet the very stunning Melissa George.
What do you think of my new logo? I had to write my name about 200 times before I managed to get a nice one. My handwriting is very slippery and messy using a tablet.

Hans Christian Andersens Tale of the Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid lives in an underwater kingdom with her father the sea king; her grandmother; and her six elder sisters, each born one year apart. When a mermaid turns 15, she is allowed to swim to the surface to watch the world above, and as the sisters become old enough, one of them visits the surface every year. As each of them returns, the Little Mermaid listens longingly to their various descriptions of the surface and of human beings.
When the Little Mermaid's turn comes, she ventures to the surface, sees a ship with a handsome prince, and falls in love with him from a distance. A great storm hits, and the Little Mermaid saves the prince from a near-drowning. She delivers him unconscious to the shore near a temple. Here she waits until a young girl from the temple finds him. The prince never sees the Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid asks her grandmother whether humans can live forever if they do not drown. The grandmother explains that humans have a much shorter lifespan than merfolk's 300 years, but that when mermaids die they turn to sea foam and cease to exist, while humans have an eternal soul that lives on in Heaven. The Little Mermaid, longing for the prince and an eternal soul, eventually visits the Sea Witch, who sells her a potion that gives her legs, in exchange for her tongue (as the Little Mermaid has the most intoxicating voice in the world). The Sea Witch warns, however, that once she becomes a human, she will never be able to return to the sea. Drinking the potion will make her feel as if a sword is being passed through her, yet when she recovers she will have two beautiful legs, and will be able to dance like no human has ever danced before. However, it will constantly feel like she is walking on sharp swords, and her feet will bleed most terribly. In addition, she will only get a soul if the prince loves her and marries her, for then a part of his soul will flow into her. Otherwise, at dawn on the first day after he marries another woman, the Little Mermaid will die brokenhearted and disintegrate into sea foam.
The Little Mermaid drinks the potion and meets the prince, who is attracted to her beauty and grace even though she is mute. Most of all he likes to see her dance, and she dances for him despite her excruciating pain. When the prince's father orders his son to marry the neighboring king's daughter, the prince tells the Little Mermaid he will not, because he does not love the princess. He goes on to say he can only love the young woman from the temple, who he believes rescued him, but adds that the Little Mermaid is beginning to take the temple girl's place in his heart. It turns out that the princess is the temple girl, who had been sent to the temple to be educated. The prince loves her and the wedding is announced.
The prince and princess marry, and the Little Mermaid's heart breaks. She thinks of all that she has given up and of all the pain she has suffered. She despairs, thinking of the death that awaits her, but before dawn, her sisters bring her a knife that the Sea Witch has given them in exchange for their long hair. If the Little Mermaid slays the prince with the knife and lets his blood drip on her feet, she will become a mermaid again, all her suffering will end and she will live out her full life.
The Little Mermaid cannot bring herself to kill the sleeping prince lying with his bride and, as dawn breaks, throws herself into the sea. Her body dissolves into foam, but instead of ceasing to exist, she feels the warmth of the sun; she has turned into a spirit, a daughter of the air. The other daughters of the air tell her she has become like them because she strove with all her heart to gain an eternal soul. She will earn her own soul by doing good deeds, and she will eventually rise up into the kingdom of God.

Back in June 2010 I met a delightful beauty by the name of Anina who introduced herself as a blogger, self confessed geek and model. I immediately recognised I had just been greeted by a kindred spirit but so much more, Anina is the entrepreneur behind the the website 360 Fashion Network, collaborating and podcasting with Nokia, handcoding all her own websites and was recently awarded by the Chinese government the title of "Top Foreign Model". Not only is she a tech wiz and web celeb but she speaks five languages and has her own mobile phone game for girls!
When Anina suggested we shoot together I naturally jumped at the chance and here's the result. A fantastic actress as well as a model, Anina beautifully embodies our theme, inspired by the tragic story of "The Little Mermaid". You can check out some of the behind the scene action on Anina's blog.

Confession: I've been working as a model these past couple months without having a card to take to castings! Pretty bad form on my part, I have been promising Priscillas that I would auto-portrait myself but its just something I haven't prioritised in my manic schedule - until now. Not even sure if the agency will like these shots, if they don't I'll simply shoot a few more images with a little more styling, perhaps I'll get a make-up artist... but really I'd prefer not too, I see enough of my own face. I prefer to spend my time achieving beautiful images of fresh faces. Really I just get such a buzz, which I why I think I continually improve and feel I have so much more to give. You have to love what you do and I truly love fashion photography, plus I'm a huge 'photographer fan'. Inez & Vinoodh, Camilla Akrans, Knoepfel and Indlekofer, Sorrenti, Lindbergh, Greg Kadel, Laurie Bartley, Bruce Weber, Nicole Bentley, Justin Smith, Georges Antoni, Benny Horne, Paola Kudacki, Sebastian Faena, Sharif Hamza, Solve Sundsbo, Willy Vanderperre.... I could go on.

So these two shots - they aren't actually the final result of my work but photoshop is a wonderful/deceptive thing and while I was playing with effects I decided I really enjoyed this artistic look. It reminds me of the movie Ever After, the 'Da Vinci' portrait of Drew Barrymore.

My test with Phillipa at Priscillas. As you can probably tell I've run out of ideas for names of these tests so its going to be lines from my favourite songs from this point on, can you guess the track? No cheating.
Anyway, Phillipa is a total babe and has a really bright future ahead of her. 5'11 with incredible long lines, hopefully we'll see her gracing the global runways next season. The two of us managed to score loads of great shots in the couple hours we spent together. I've decided to make it a priority to get loads of headshots for models in future tests because these are really the hardest images to gain in your portfolio and the most valuable. The front of any models card needs that essential striking beauty shot and without it, its tricky to garner the right kind of attention.
