Flower Power

The styling for this outfit comes from a couple inspirations, Stepford Wives meets Balenciaga S/S 08 meets rockabilly. I love to toughen up a pretty look with dark or leather pieces. When I first spotted this printed dress in Grandma Takes A Trip I immediately thought of this collection.

About a year ago I was going through my wardrobe and realised I only owned 2 dresses. I was so shocked - I obviously had too many male buddies and was dressing down to feel comfortable. Its a female prerogative to wear dresses and they are always to fun - especially when you are wearing one like this, it makes me feel so pretty and feminine! Since then I've been on a dress frenzy and I now own about 15 of them.

dress, Grandma Takes A Trip (crown street store)
leather jacket, S&G
purple jelly wedges, Melissa

i adore how the leather toughens this the dress up a bit. it really is one of my favorite looks!!

as for spray tans, they are tooooo smelly for me, right? pale skin is just so fresh and lovely.

i always think of miss blanchett when trying decide whether or not to soak up some rays.

I love those shoes. I think Melissa did a collaboration with Alexandre Herchcovitch and I've been coveting a pair of those shoessss.

P.S. Oooh yeah I forgot how smelly self-tanner was, too! Well I hope you have fun at the shoot next week. I hope you'll let us know how it goes! And for my collages I use Adobe Photoshop 7.0. I think it's a pretty out-dated version, but I borrowed it from my Grandpa & haven't felt the need to shell out more ca$h for a newer version.

perfect dress,
is that your own design and tailoring to complete it?

hahaha i love the stepford wives reference. but i think you got it spot on! and you wear it so well! the leather jacket was a good call, it definitely toughens up the outfit.

I thought of Balenciaga too when I saw the print of your dress, it's so wonderfully feminine without being limpid.

Just a random thought, does having a change in skin tone change the way you dress (choice of colours etc)?

(Great blog by the way, you have fantastic style.)

I was totally feeling Balenciaga before I read the entire post!
Good work!

Oh my gosh, I adore this outfit! There's nothing I love more (at least at this moment) than leather and florals! :P I wear that combination a lot! And to me it says, "I'm embrace that I'm a girl, and I'm proud, but don't think I'm all delicate and fragile, I can still kick you a**!" haha. Anyway, gorgeous outfit, and thanks for your sweet comment! <3
